We The People Deserve Better

How’s it going my minions? It’s been a hot minute since I uploaded anything here, because frankly? I haven’t been in any kind of positive mood. It’s felt like…..why post my thoughts when they’re so dark? I wanted this blog to be a positive place that was safe for others. That helped their spirits be lifted….Unfortunately, life is neither fair, nor bright and sunny all the time.

Amid COVID-19 blasting off everywhere last year I spent the first two months looking for jobs, I was lucky that when I moved back to Indiana briefly I was able to get a job working for my dad. Unfortunately it didn’t work out and I moved back to Idaho. Now, still looking for a job since August of last year. When all the governors and politicians were shutting down businesses that “weren’t essential” what happened was my friends in the service industry got three times the work. Hospitals were overloaded, in short the economy and possibility of a job crumbled around me.

Now that the job market is opened back up all the jobs around have been flooded. Unless you know someone with connections…..well your odds aren’t good. I’m reading about how (from my understanding) politicians in Idaho are getting these massive tax breaks. Meanwhile local folks like me are massively struggling to find work. I’ve gone by several places I used to eat at or visit and the doors are closed. You can’t pay the rent for your business and can’t get a COVID relief loan then your business goes under.

While my thoughts on things to shift the status quo are well known among certain friends I highly doubt any politicians would agree….I look around and see Washington, Oregon, Montana, Utah and pretty much every other state other than Idaho has a good chunk of money. Why? Well, it’s quite simple really. Marijuana. Oregon has 1 million pounds of surplus cannabis. As a result they have more money than really they know what to do with. Meanwhile I have a friend who’s mother works for the school district in another city about 30 minutes from me. Their schools are falling apart, the roof tiles and caving in due to water damage…the list goes on.

I was reading in the paper the other day that Idaho is now discontinuing the Powerball lottery to “help fund underfunded schools” this is but ONE of the problems….

Unfortunately the cost of living is NOT in anyones favor here. But especially college aged people. People are looking for apartments rather than houses to start families in. Why? Because we have a massive amount of people selling 2 bedroom one bath condos in California. They make bank and then move here, buying the best properties which are out of dang near every Idaho natives’ price range. As a result it jacks up the price of real estate and by extension rent.

I’m unfortunately not in the group that thinks things even CAN get better. How can they when the deck is stacked in favor of the rich or the immigrants who move from another state? If it wasn’t the cost of living these people are changing it’s the politics they bring with them even though “we moved from California to get away from ABC politics” I’m sure this makes me sound like the Idahoans who are just dead set against change. That’s not it at all, I simply understand that for people like me? The working class, the servers, the bussers, the unemployed and seeking? We’re not really on anyone’s list of people to watch out for. We’re not rich, we can barely afford rent; let alone all the bills on top of rent.

It’s really sad… the people that were propping up the economy. Higher risk of contracting COVID due to working with the public and they couldn’t even get hazard pay. All in all…..there’s so much wrong with society and people that legit need the help. People in power, politically need to help the people that live in the same state. It’s beyond unfair that people like me are punished simply for existing. Unless you’re rich, an immigrant (foreign or domestic), or a politician it seems that you’ve got the deck stacked against you. The voice echoing in your head “the house always wins”

To me there is NO difference between day traders and politicians. I remember not long ago everyday people made those day traders bleed money. Second houses were foreclosed on, cars, etc. Meanwhile nobody my age can afford a house unless they have a job working for the state with benefits. I’m so tired y’all….

So tired of inequality. I empathized with the pain of injustice the black community felt with the death of Mr. Flloyd, I felt the fear and loss of Texas recently with the loss of electricity and fresh water. As someone who’s constantly shuffling money in order to avoid my utilities being shut off I can only imagine what they went through. The fact is, the working class, the people like me living well below the poverty line? We’re likely higher risk for mental health problems, higher risk of stress-related diseases such as heart attack and more.

How is it fair that local politicians get massive tax breaks when my friends who work as servers, bussers, etc. couldn’t even get hazard pay for dealing with the public during a pandemic? Where is the equality or help for university students? Who during a pandemic weren’t sure where they’d go, or how they’d eat?

I certainly hope y’all don’t take this as a me complaining, I have to say though….I believe all these questions are valid. I think they need to be asked, I think we need to realize that it’s not JUST the Black community suffering. It’s the future of America that’s suffering. How can we as a society, ever expect the world to change if we keep the people who could change the world in another rung of society? Keep outdated views, act out of fear versus courage, keep the rich rich and the poor even poorer. When all it might take is simply listening to we the people?

I have the view that actions speak louder than words. That in mind having written my local congressman, senators and so forth before I can’t say as I ever got a response, let alone the belief that anyone would get back to me. We the people deserve better. Better than senators who have or are likely to be removed from office due to sexual scandals. I speak both of past locals in Idaho and current governor of NYC Andrew Cuomo. We do deserve better than these, better than former President Trump. (This is my belief, I understand and respect other’s views even if I don’t agree with them.)

We the people, deserve better. My question is, if we ask and these politician’s jobs is to serve the people…Then I’ll venture to say they’ve failed us utterly. We deserve better, so; when will we get it?
